Congrats to former The Walking Dead actress Alexandra Breckenridge, who is now a mom!
Breckenridge and her husband, guitarist Casey Neil Hooper, welcomed their first child on Sept. 3, a baby boy named Jack Breckenridge Hooper.
The actress revealed that she carried out "a lot of research" before deciding to have a natural water birth at a local hospital, supported by a team of midwives and a doula.
Breckenridge, 34, also said that the couple had previously chosen their baby name, but then she changed her mind when she was jet-lagged in London at around three months pregnant. At that point, she decided her son's name had to be Jack.
Meaning "God is gracious," Jack is a popular English baby boy name, originally a diminutive of John (FYI, it went from John to Johnkin to Jankin to Jackin to Jack). It's now an even more popular name than John in its own right in many English-speaking countries, particularly in Scotland and Ireland, where it's currently the No. 1 baby boy name. In the U.S., it was number 40 in 2015, and it has been in the top 100 since 1996.
Jack has been chosen as a baby boy name by dozens of celebrities, including Matt Lauer, Luke Perry, Meg Ryan, Anna Faris and Chris Pratt, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and Patrick Cassidy. It also features heavily in popular culture, with characters named Jack in TV shows 24, Lost and 30 Rock. And, of course, it's a nursery rhyme favorite — "Jack and Jill," "Jack Sprat" and "Little Jack Horner" — not to mention fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk.
Certain baby names simply never go out of favor no matter how popular they are, and Jack is one of them — proving that sometimes the simplest names are the best.
